Workgate was founded from a shared belief: working in the Netherlands and Europe should be fairer, more transparent and more professional.
Through Stichting Zorgbrug in Rotterdam, we came into contact with one another. In that work, we saw up close what often goes wrong in practice. People come to the Netherlands and other parts of Europe with good intentions, but without sufficient knowledge of rules and procedures. They sometimes pay large sums of money, are misinformed or even scammed, and eventually end up in situations where they live or work illegally. This is unsafe and creates uncertainty.
That did not feel right. And it has to be done differently.
At the same time, we observed a growing problem on the other side of the chain. One of the co-founders of Workgate is the owner of a transport company and faces a daily shortage of skilled workers. In the Netherlands, suitable employees are not readily available. And while skilled workers do exist within Europe, there is often a lack of the correct documentation, clear processes and reliable guidance. Here too, the same question had been asked for some time: how can this be done better, fairer and more sustainably?
From these two worlds, Workgate was created.
An initiative that helps people work in the Netherlands and Europe in a legal and well-guided way, while supporting employers with clear and structured processes. Without empty promises, hidden costs or unrealistic expectations.
Ideally, we would like to operate entirely on a no cure, no pay basis. In practice, this is not always possible. We work within a chain of partners across multiple countries, and some parties require direct payment for their services. In this, we depend on one another. Workgate has also consciously chosen a sustainable business model. For this reason, transparency is essential to us: clear explanations upfront, fixed fees and no surprises afterwards.
Workgate is not a staffing or recruitment agency and does not provide jobs. What we do is carefully connect people, regulations and opportunities. With attention to the human aspect, respect for laws and regulations, and an understanding of the realities faced by both workers and employers.
This platform was built to provide clarity, restore trust and work together towards a better way of working across borders.
